About the Item

A French petite mirror in the Louis XVI style, dating to the 19th century, with incredible, carved gilt wood detail set off by the ebonized (painted) backpanel. At the top of the piece, an urn overflows with floral and foliate carvings that hang down to the upper edges of the frame, suggesting abundance even in small proportions. A depiction of two lovebirds, beaks locked, are emblematic of the buoyancy springtime deliversas this mirror will remind you of throughout the year. The original mirror plate is surrounded by a low, beaded trim and flanked at the lower corners by ornate carvings, which transition into little ebonized feet to lift and protect the delicate work.
