About the Item

A stunning vintage French industrial clock by the famed company of Henri Lepaute. Found abandoned in a French industrial building by our buyer, the battered green enamel case with dial pockmarked with rust, encompassing the despair and decline of a lost world.

The Lepaute dynasty of clockmakers, started by Jean-Andr Lepaute in the time of Louis XV, developed over 200 years with the company ending its days making very high quality electric clocks. This clock has ‘Lepaute Electrique’ signed on the dial and a label to the rear.

The superb 110v AC remontoire electric movement is not safe for modern use, our clockmaker has skillfully fitted a quartz movement, retaining the aluminum original hands. These have their original black paint thats has suffered over years of neglect. The bezel has also been lost, probably decades ago, allowing the wonderful rust patination of the dial to occur.
