About the Item

A lovely antique painted iron clock dial signed ‘EDWIN GAY**, BRENTFORD and RICHMOND’ and dating from circa 1890. As reclaimed by our buyer from a derelict building, it bares the scars of a hard life. Beautifully patinated with paint loss, scratches and rust. It has it’s varnished wooden surround, but with no bezel. The hands are beautifully cut steel, their once fine blue finish long succumbed to rust.

Originally a mechanical fusee movement, this was damaged and mostly missing. Our clockmaker has skilfully fitted a quartz movement for ease and reliability, while retaining the beautiful original hands, hand washer and winding shaft. A hanging bracket is fitted to the rear. A unique timepiece for anywhere in your home.
