About the Item

Rockford Furniture Art Deco Tallboy cheset of drawers, circa 1930s. Features a walnut frame with matchbook burled veneer along the front doors. The chest has two smaller dovetailed drawers along the top and opens to 5 graduated interior drawers. The chest features a backsplash and turned legs leading to removable casters.

Rockford Chair and Furniture Company
Organized in 1882, this company was one of the largest and oldest furniture manufacturers in the city. The company ceased manufacturing in 1950 and became a rental business until 1972, when its properties were sold to Rockford Standard Furniture.

Rockford, Illinois was a major furniture manufacturing city from the Civil War to the mid-twentieth century. The city’s furniture industry was influenced by Swedish immigration, the Rock River, hardwood timbers, and railroads.
