About the Item

17th century Spanish or Spanish Colonial oak chest with wrought iron hinges and mounts, original key and working lock. The front panel with chip carved surface, scalloped gardrooning surrounding circular sunbursts. The beautiful wrought iron hinges with openwork Gothic tracery which could make this chest even older. Or a transition piece.
I love finding a piece in such ‘virgin’ condition, the dry surface, no wax or shellac to mar the original surface. It is also rare to see the original lock and key. Likely Spanish, but very possibly Mexican from the Spanish Colonial period. Here is a piece of history, surviving intact for 400 years.
