Plant Care
Calgary Carpet Juniper is remarkably low-maintenance and adaptable. Once established, it requires minimal watering and can thrive in various soil conditions. Pruning is rarely necessary but can be done in early spring to maintain desired shape. This juniper shows excellent resistance to deer and rabbit damage, making it ideal for problem areas. Apply a slow-release fertilizer in early spring if desired, though not essential for healthy growth.
Planting Instructions
Plant in spring or fall for best results. Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball and at the same depth. Remove the plant from its container and gently loosen the roots. Place in the hole, ensuring the top of the root ball is level with the soil surface. Backfill with soil, water thoroughly, and apply a 2-inch layer of mulch around the plant, keeping it away from the stem. Space plants 4-6 feet apart for optimal coverage.
For erosion control, plant on slopes 4-6 feet apart. In mass plantings, space plants closer together for faster coverage. Water deeply but infrequently during the first growing season to establish a strong root system. Calgary Carpet Juniper typically takes 2-3 years to reach full spread but will maintain its low height throughout its lifetime.
