Cabinet Model 216, designed by Aino Aalto, manufactured by Oy Huonekalu- ja Rakennustytehdas Ab, 1940s. Birch and painted birch. Good vintage condition, patina and minor wear consistent with age and use.

Aino Aalto (1894-1949) was an architect, designer and one of the founders of Artek. Aino Aalto, graduated as an architect in 1920 and began her professional career working for architect Oiva Kallio in Helsinki. In 1924 she joined Alvar Aalto’s office and six months later they married. Aino and Alvar worked a lot together, and their partnership was characterised by absolute equality. Their joint projects include the world-famous Villa Mairea in Noormarkku, the Paimio Sanatorium and the Savoy Restaurant in Helsinki. Aino Aalto is best known as a glass, interior and furniture designer. Her interests also included architecture and photography, as well as many areas of applied art and design.
