About the Item
On offer here is a beautiful antique oval mirror made in Northern France in the early 20th century, circa 1910. The mirror frame was enriched with a bow-tied ribbon on top and a pearl beading that surrounds the glass. The decorations are typical for the Louis Seize or Empire style. The mirror frame has a solid limewood frame smoothened with gesso. The ornaments were cast in plaster and reinforced with steel mesh wires.
The mirror frame was gold gilt by the use of gold paint. The paint was made by solving gold dust in clear varnish. After gilding, the frame was patinated to enhance depth and definition. The mirror was gently cleaned in our atelier and a new mirror glass plate was inserted. A protective pine back cladding was added. The mirror is solid, clean, and ready for use.Dimensions: Height: 21.26 in (54 cm)Width: 15.36 in (39 cm)Depth: 3.15 in (8 cm)Style: Louis XVI (In the Style Of)Materials and Techniques: Gesso,Mirror,Paint,Gilt,PatinatedPlace of Origin: FrancePeriod: Early 20th CenturyDate of Manufacture: circa 1910Condition: GoodReplacements made: The mirror plate was replaced for a new mirror plate.
