Plant Care

The Jane Magnolia is relatively low-maintenance once established. Water deeply and regularly during the first growing season to establish an extensive root system. Apply a layer of mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds, but keep it away from the trunk. Fertilize in early spring with a slow-release fertilizer formulated for acid-loving plants. Pruning is rarely necessary but can be done immediately after flowering if needed.

Planting Instructions

Plant your Jane Magnolia in spring or fall for best results. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball and just as deep. Remove the tree from its container and gently loosen the roots. Place the tree in the hole at the same depth it was growing in the container, with the root flare slightly above ground level. Backfill with original soil amended with organic matter, tamping down gently to remove air pockets. Water thoroughly and apply a 2-3 inch layer of mulch around the base, keeping it away from the trunk.
